John L. Goiser, MD, died on February 13, 2018. Born in Lancaster, Pa., in 1934, he was a son of Swiss immigrant parents, the late Adolph and Rose Goiser. He grew up in Orange, Va., and graduated from Woodberry Forest School in 1952. At Woodberry Forest, he was a member of the varsity soccer team. He entered the University of Virginia where he received his BA and MD degrees. As an undergraduate at UVA, he was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity and played varsity soccer.

Dr. Goiser served 22 years active duty in the US Army Medical Corps as a Pediatrician with tours of duty in Kentucky, Hawaii, Maryland, West Germany, Texas and South Carolina. He was certified by the American Boards of Pediatrics and Allergy. After retirement from the Army, he worked with the South Carolina Departments of Corrections and Mental Health. He was a charter member of Spring Valley Baptist Church where he taught an adult coed class for 29 years. In addition, he was a member of the senior choir. His hobby was writing, and he completed novels, The Place Revisited, Pierre’s Cab, and You Got It Right, as well as Christian poetry books, Seed of Love and Touch of Love.

Dr. Goiser is survived by his wife, Sue Smith Goiser; and daughter, Susan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, John Stephen; and brother, Adolph Jr.
