Christopher P. Cifarelli MD, PhD, MMM, Res ’11 is the 2022 American College of Surgeons – American Association of Neurological Surgeons Health Policy Fellow.

Cifarelli completed his doctoral degrees at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pa., earning a PhD in Developmental Biology and Teratology, followed by his MD from Jefferson Medical College. He subsequently completed his residency in neurological surgery at the University of Virginia and recently earned a Master in Medical Management from Carnegie Mellon University.

Since 2014, Cifarelli has served as the director of the West Virginia University Gamma Knife Radiosurgery program and is currently an associate professor in the Departments of Neurosurgery and Radiation Oncology. In 2017, the WVU Intraoperative Radiotherapy (IORT) Program, developed under his direction, enrolled the first U.S. patient in the INTRAGO II Clinical Trial for the treatment of newly diagnosed Glioblastoma.

Cifarelli is an associate editor of the Journal of Neuro-Oncology, member of the Board of the Directors for the TARGIT Collaborative Group and a member of the AANS/CNS Tumor Section Executive Committee, where he serves as the section’s liaison with ASTRO.
