Gavin P. Jones, MD ’18 was recently elected as a member of the exclusive American Antiquarian Society (AAS) in Worcester, Massachusetts. Founded in 1812 by printer and book publisher Isaiah Thomas, the AAS is both a learned society and major independent research library – one which houses the largest and most accessible collection of books, pamphlets, broadsides, newspapers, periodicals, music, and graphic arts material dating back to the first European settlers to what is now the United States, printed through 1876.

Individuals are elected to the AAS in recognition of eminent works of scholarship, artistic endeavors, broad support of cultural institutions, manifest interest in bibliographical and collecting matters, or distinction as community or national leaders in humanistic affairs. The AAS has just over 1000 members, including 14 presidents of the United States, 80 Pulitzer Prize winners, 60 Bancroft Prizes winners, many Guggenheim Fellows, and multiple MacArthur Fellows.

At 30 years of age, Dr. Jones is one of the youngest individuals to be elected to membership in the 210-year history of the society.
