Harold I. Friedman, MD ’74, PhD, FACS, is professor and chief in the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Prisma Health–Midlands/University of South Carolina School of Medicine and director for the integrated plastic surgery residency program. The program is a six year residency and only one resident is accepted each year.

Friedman founded the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in 1984 and has served as division chief since then. He has been a member of the University of South Carolina School of Medicine faculty since 1984, becoming a professor of surgery in 1990.​

Friedman says, “I have spent over 30 years training general surgery residents the principles and practices of plastic surgery and was very proud to see many of my residents choose to further their careers with training in plastic surgery.”
