John H. Armstrong, MD, FACS, was named the 2022 Advocate of the Year by SurgeonsVoice, the American College of Surgeon’s nationwide, interactive advocacy program.

Armstrong is a professor of surgery at the University of South Florida. He is a national health leader, trauma surgeon, and medical educator. Armstrong has led local, regional, and statewide trauma systems and received the 2016 Florida Medical Association Distinguished Service Award. He has served as Florida’s secretary of health, chief medical officer at the USF Health Center for Advanced Medical Learning and Simulation (CAMLS), Tampa, Fla., and trauma medical director of Shands at the University of Florida Medical Center, Gainesville, Fla. He completed his career in the US Army Medical Corps at the rank of Colonel in 2005.
