Robert (Bob) S. Brown, Sr., MD ’67, has published a new book titled Healing Depression by Degrees of Fitness: the Brain Health Guidebook. The book was co-authored by Cristy S. Phillips EdD and describes how mild to moderate exercise improves the brain. The authors discuss specific, practical approaches to understanding and applying the principles of fitness of the body, mind, and spirit, activities that depressed people find helpful. The book is available on Amazon.

Since 1971, Brown has worked in the field of psychiatry, first as an assistant professor of psychiatry at UVA, then clinical associate professor of psychiatry, then clinical professor of psychiatry and neurosciences, and now as visiting professor of psychiatry and neurosciences. In 2017, he was recognized as co-recipient of the UVA Medical Alumni Association’s Walter Reed Distinguished Achievement Award.
