Duke Herrell, MD ’90, Res ’96, was named CEO of Virtuoso Surgical Inc. in April 2022. Virtuoso is a start-up emerging from Vanderbilt University developing a unique, patented robotic surgical instrument technology to improve and advance rigid endoscopy applications allowing multiple dexterous instruments through a standard endoscope. Herrell is also professor of urology and engineering at Vanderbilt and has been granted leave from clinical practice to advance the capital raising and development of the technology. He is continuing his NIH funded lab research and administrative roles.
