Dr. Charles “Chip” Bounds (70) of Moncks Corner, SC passed away peacefully on Monday, February 8 with his family by his side following a brief battle against cancer.

Born in Richmond, VA on June 11, 1950, Dr. Bounds was the eldest son of the late David M. and Ann F. Bounds of Richmond, VA. Dr. Bounds received his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA.

Dr. Bounds moved to Moncks Corner in 1978 and was the co-founder of Berkeley Family Practice, which is still located in Moncks Corner. Dr. Bounds served the residents of the Tri-County area for more than 30 years as a family physician.

He was an active member in the community and was a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International. Dr. Bounds also served as a team physician for Berkeley High School and the South Carolina Stingrays. A leader of Kairos- an Episcopal ministry, which serves prisoners, Dr. Bounds was active in his church, Trinity Episcopal Church of Pinopolis, SC, and Holy Ascension Orthodox Church in Mt Pleasant, SC.

Dr. Bounds was at his best when teaching others. Whether teaching high school students exercise physiology at Berkeley High School or mentoring family medicine residents, Dr. Bounds was always engaged in the professional development of his peers. Dr. Bounds was, above all else, a humble and caring physician who was admired and beloved by his patients, staff, and colleagues with whom he worked.

Dr. Bounds was involved in many activities and hobbies throughout his life. He enjoyed watching sports, photography, reading, playing guitar, and boating. As a sports fan his favorite teams included his alma mater Virginia Cavaliers, the Washington Redskins, and the Atlanta Braves. He is a member of the Psi Chapter of the Sigma Chi Fraternity.

Most of all Chip was a loving father and grandfather. He was loved and respected by his children. He taught them to treat everyone with equal respect and dignity. He fostered a love of reading, hard work, education, and importance of family and friends. As a grandfather, he closely monitored and took extreme pride in the activities and achievements of his grandchildren.

He is survived by his children: Katie Bounds Todd (Shane) of Moncks Corner, SC and Tim Bounds (Ali) of Denver, CO, and 3 grandchildren. Siblings: Mary B Dellinger; Sarah B Portervint (Mitch); Matthew P. Bounds (Laurie); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be private. A memorial service will be planned in the future to celebrate his life. Memorials may be made to Hollings Cancer Center, 18 Bee Street, MSC450, Charleston, SC 29425.
