Fred M. Gold MD, 84, of Plano, TX, passed away in his home with his family at his side on Sunday, January 19.

Fred was born on April 15, 1935 in New York City to Estelle and Hyman Gold. After graduating from Stuyvesant High School in New York, he earned an undergraduate and a medical degree from Tufts University in Boston, MA. Fred began his surgical residency at The University of Virginia, in Charlottesville, VA, where he met and married Jane Wilson, his wife of 57 years. He served two years in the United States Navy as a medical doctor, after which time he continued his medical training at New York University Medical Center, specializing in Urology. A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and Board Certified Urologist, Fred practiced medicine in Binghamton, NY for the next 25 years. There, he and Jane raised a family of four children.

Fred and Jane retired to Asheville, NC where he volunteered at the local free clinic and arboretum. They enjoyed playing golf, traveling, and visiting with their grandchildren. They recently moved to Plano, TX to be closer to family.

In addition to his wife Jane, Fred is survived by son David (Barbara) of Weston, MA, daughter Susan (Jeffrey Freed) of Hollywood, FL, son Robert (Jennifer) of West Hartford, CT, son Stephen (Manda) of Dallas, TX, eight grandchildren, and sister Myra Dunn of Naples, FL.

Burial will take place in June at the West Lawn Cemetery, in Johnson City, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Rabbi Goldman-Wartell’s discretionary fund at Temple Concord or the Ethan Freed Learning Center c/o Youth Renewal Fund.
