>Dr. John Eppes Flournoy, 80, passed away peacefully Dec. 9, 2018, at his home in Morehead City, NC.

Dr. Flournoy was born in Richmond, VA on August 18, 1938 to Albert and Claire Flournoy. He married the love of his life, Penn Walker, on June 22, 1963, in Richmond. This was the start of a love affair that would span over 55 years. Penn preceded John in death on July 9, 2018, so it is fitting that he would join her exactly five months later.

Dr. Flournoy spent one year serving his country in the United States Coast Guard. He attended Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Va., where he received his degree in pharmacy (1956-1960) and then after working as a pharmacist for a year, went back to the Medical College of Virginia to medical school (1961–1965). Dr. Flournoy did a one-year internship at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Ohio. He completed his residency in radiology at the University of Virginia Medical School in Charlottesville, Va., as well as participated in the teaching program at the medical school. He moved to Kinston to practice radiology.

The family suggests that memorials be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 215 Ann St. Beaufort, N.C. 28516 or St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 800 Roundtree Ave., Kinston, NC 28501.
