Kirk Joachim Fleischer, MD passed away June 19,2020. He was survived by his mother, Helga (deceased, 2024.)

A native of Norfolk, Virginia, Kirk graduated from UVA College of Arts and Sciences in 1987 and UVA School of Medicine in 1991. He then trained at both Johns Hopkins Medical School and Mayo Clinic. Kirk practices cardio thoracic surgery for 15 years in Norfolk, VA, where he was awarded the Top Docs award for Hampton Roads. He cared deeply for others and routinely placed the needs of others above his own.

In his spare time, Kirk loved art, eventually painting cartoon characters in two different hospitals for pediatric patients to enjoy. He also enjoyed wildlife photography. Annually he treated his mother to a surprise trip to an exotic location where Kirk photographed the local wildlife. These pictures have been compiled into published books.

Kirk had a huge heart and gentle soul. He is truly missed.
