Dr. Kurtz Alderman, age 89, passed away on January 15, 2019 at the Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness.  Dr. Alderman was born in Floyd County, Virginia and was a veteran of the United States Army.  He was a graduate of Bridgewater College and the University of Virginia School of Medicine where he met the love of his life, his wife of 63 years, Carol Walters.

Through the Rural Medicine Scholarship, he came to Clintwood, Va., in 1959.  Dr. Alderman was medical director of the Dickenson Clinic from 1959 until 2000 and had been the Dickenson County Medical Examiner since 1963.  He served as lieutenant governor of Kiwanis and was president of the Clintwood Kiwanis.  Dr. Alderman was team doctor for the Clintwood Greenwave Football Program for 45 years.  He was a member of the Clintwood United Methodist Church.

Dr. Alderman was preceded in death by his parents, Simon B. and Effie Alderman. Survivors include his wife, Carol Walters Alderman; three daughters; a brother, sister and sister-in-law; and six grandchildren.
