Michael Julian Collins, MD, age 41, of Wexford, passed away on March 23, 2023, while in hospice at the AHN Wexford Hospital.

Born March 28, 1981 in Etobicoke, Ontario, Canada, he was the son of Douglas and Barbara Collins. In addition to his parents, Michael leaves behind his beloved wife, Lori Stansal-Collins; his son, Ty Collins; his sister, Krystina (Albert) Koops, and their sons, Evan and Collin; his mother and father-in-law, Freda and Gary Stansal; his brother-in-law, Steve (Jessica) Stansal, and their daughter, Riley; and extended family including aunts, uncles, and cousins in both Canada and the US.

Michael received his undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto, then completed medical school at the University of Maryland at Baltimore. He went on to complete his residency at Yale University in New Haven, Conn., then his cardiothoracic fellowship at Rush University in Chicago. He completed his critical care fellowship at the University of Virginia and most recently served as co-director of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Allegheny General Hospital. He was also the surgical director of the ECMO program for Allegheny Health Network.

Michael was a lover of U.S. history, with a particular interest in the Civil War. He enjoyed spending long hours with his family in their backyard pool, as well as playing video games with his son, Ty. He was an avid windsurfer and skier, especially in his youth. He loved visiting his family cottage, where he spent all day on the beach and in the water.
