Peter Hall Herwick, MD, FACS, age 75, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2020, from Parkinson’s disease, in Paradise Valley, Ariz.

Born in Oceanside, California, to Roald Victor Herwick DDS and Elizabeth Hall Herwick in 1945. Raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Peter played four years varsity football at University of Pennsylvania. He graduated in 1971 from the University of Virginia School of Medicine, before moving to Phoenix for internship. After practicing emergency medicine for five years, Peter trained in residency at Maricopa County Hospital, practicing orthopedic surgery and trauma at Scottsdale Memorial Hospital for 23 years.

He retired in 2004 due to life-threatening cancer, allowing him to continue a lifelong passion for any high risk endeavor, including skiing, mountain climbing, triathalons, marathons, and going fast on or in anything with wheels. He saw the top of Mt. McKinley, Alaska; Huascaran in Cordillera Blanca, Peru; winter ascent Grand Teton,Wyoming; Mt. Sneffles ,Colorado , and obtaining six million vertical feet with CMH adventure skiing and boarding. Motorcyles and trucks allowed for racing in the western USA, and Baja Mexico. Travel in the US and Europe provided ample opportunity to research museums, military exhibits, architectural sites, Roman history and all music styles. Peter was a history buff and voracious reader who often quoted the material he absorbed and provided esoteric details to all who would listen. His love of the “great outdoors” was enjoyed with friends of 45 years, all of whom helped his dreams come true.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years,Jan Wheeler, daughter Sarah Elizabeth Barnes, grandson Harrison Peter, son Jonathan Peter, brother R. Victor DDS MS, wife Patty and daughter Jacqueline.
