Dr. Philip Hurt “Phil” Hancock, 87, beloved husband, father and “Pop”, of Raphine, Virginia, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, November 29, 2021.

Dr. Hancock was born in Newport News, Virginia on April 24, 1934, a son of the late Philip Barbour Hancock and Cecile Estelle (Burch) Hancock.

Phil received his undergraduate and medical degree from the University of Virginia and then served his country as a Captain in the United States Air Force. Dr. Hancock retired after practicing OB/GYN for 30 plus years in Newport News.

He spent his last 14 years in Raphine where he made many wonderful friends.

In addition to his parents, Dr. Hancock was preceded in death by his best friend and sister, Ellen Carter (Hancock) Honeycutt.

Dr. Hancock is survived by his wife of 33 years, Sue (Meredith) Hancock; three daughters, Lisa Vaughan (favorite son-in-law Ed) of Malibu, California, Leslie Hancock of Greenville, Virginia, and Lauren Hancock of Wilmington, North Carolina; two sons, Steven Hancock and Randolph Hancock; four grandchildren, the true lights of his life, Declan Walsh Vaughan, Elle Victoria Vaughan, Jett Hamilton Hancock, and Weston Hurt Hancock; a brother, Cecil “Butch” Hancock and wife Barb, of Tarboro, North Carolina; and many nieces and nephews.
