Dr. Preston H. Bradshaw, Jr. died on September 10, 2021 at the age of 87. A Rocky Mount native, Dr. Bradshaw moved to Raleigh following his extensive education and began his urology practice in 1967. He was a dedicated physician who gave of himself fully, providing the best possible medical care to his patients for over 40 years.

Happiest when spending time with his family, Dr. Bradshaw was an enthusiastic supporter of his children’s sports activities. From the time his children entered Ravenscroft School until the end of his life, he was a constant presence at the school’s sporting events. He was honored to be inducted into the Ravenscroft Sports Hall of Fame for his enduring commitment to the school. Other of his beloved sports related achievements include being a founding member of the Raleigh Capital Area Soccer League and team physician for N.C. State University for many years.

Dr. Bradshaw will be remembered as a loyal friend, loving husband and father with a deep commitment to helping others. He pushed people to be the best they could be, helping them achieve success through his unwavering support and encouragement.

Dr. Bradshaw’s drive for excellence began as a youngster in Boy Scouts of America where he earned the coveted Eagle Scout award. After graduating from Rocky Mount High School, he attended Wake Forest College where he graduated Cum Laude in 1956. He obtained a medical degree from Duke University in 1960 and went on to do internships at Yale University and St. Thomas’ Hospital in London, England. He completed his surgical residency at Duke University in 1962 and entered the United States Air Force completing his service as a Captain and General Surgeon. Following his time in the armed forces, Dr. Bradshaw completed a urological residency at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville where he was Chief Urologist. He was certified by the American Urological Association and the American College of Surgeons in 1967.

Dr. Bradshaw is survived by his devoted wife Judy, daughters Ann (Willard) Varnum and Michelle (Roger) Harris, son Michael Bradshaw, stepson Carl (Aimee) Allen, grandchildren Shaw, Will, Jack and McClain Varnum, Stephanie and Matthew Harris, Stewart and Annie Allen. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Preston and Lucile Bradshaw.
