Dr. Wendell Dinwiddie passed away on June 9, 2017 after a brief illness. He was an orthopaedic surgeon at St. Helena Hospital Napa Valley until his retirement in 2000.

In a letter to the St. Helena Star newspaper on July 7, former co-worker Laura Nye said, “I was blessed to have worked for him for many of those years. He was a compassionate doctor with a heart of gold, helping many patients return to a more comfortable, active life. Some people might have known him as the peach farmer on the corner of Deer Park Road and Silverado Trail. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten.”
