Eligibility/Qualifications:

Resident of California or northwest U.S.

Established in 1980 by James E. and Beverly Lambert of Portland, Oregon, with assistance from members of the UVA Medical School Class of 1980, in memory of their son, Dr. Richard Lambert.  Dr. Lambert was killed in a hiking accident two weeks following graduation from the UVA School of Medicine. The Lamberts desired that scholarships be awarded to medical students who exhibit the same personal qualities attributed to their son by his classmates and friends: absolute integrity, optimism, determination, sense of humor, and boundless joy in living. UVA medical students from the states of California, Oregon, Washington, Utah and Idaho, who possess an active interest and enjoyment in the outdoors, may receive the scholarship.
