Established in April 2006 by Dr. Charles Henderson (Class of 1965) and his wife, Mary, as a permanent endowed family scholarship to provide scholarship awards to medical students who are from West of Roanoke in southwest Virginia and who are students or graduates of the University of Virginia. If there is no eligible candidate from southwest Virginia, then the scholarship may be awarded to a student who is a native of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Each recipient will receive a copy of Addendums A, B, and C of the fund agreement and is expected to make annual contributions to the scholarship beginning eight years after graduation. However, this is not a requirement to receive the scholarship. The first scholarship was awarded in 2012.
