The UVA Medical Alumni Association and Medical School Foundation regularly host programs and events to engage students, housestaff, faculty and alumni of the University of Virginia School of Medicine. Constituents may be brought into these programs as volunteers to enhance the program for other participants and create an inclusive and welcoming community.
Volunteer Statement
As a volunteer for this program/event, I acknowledge that I am representing myself, the University of Virginia School of Medicine, and the UVA Medical Alumni Association and Medical School Foundation. I agree to approach and fulfill my responsibilities and duties with professionalism. I acknowledge the policies below and agree to abide by these expectations.
Behavior
- The volunteer’s focus should be on the scheduled service project/program.
- If a volunteer cannot fulfill their commitment, it is important to notify the staff of the UVA Medical Alumni Association as soon as possible.
- Volunteers shall practice cultural humility and treat all participants, employees, other volunteers, and community members with respect, courtesy and dignity.
- Volunteers represent the UVA School of Medicine, UVA Medical Alumni Association and Medical School Foundation; they promise not to engage in any activity that could cause physical or reputational harm to the organization, to others, or to themselves.
Dress Code
Volunteers must dress appropriately for their volunteer service and the season. It is expected that all volunteers will exercise good judgement and dress appropriately. When representing the UVA Medical Alumni Association, volunteers should adhere to the same dress code requirements as staff members. Volunteers are expected to dress in a manner that promotes professionalism and inclusion, and project a positive image of the organization and the services provided. Dress may not be so unusual, inappropriate, perceived as threatening or offensive, or lacking in cleanliness that it disrupts or distracts from the event/program.
Generally, business or business casual attire is acceptable for most volunteer positions. If specific clothing and/or a uniform is expected for a volunteer position, this will be communicated in advance.
Confidentiality
Volunteers may be exposed to confidential information related to the UVA Medical Alumni Association, Medical School Foundation, UVA School of Medicine, constituents or event attendees. This information is shared in strict confidence for the success of the event/program and shall not be shared or used for any purposes rather than those intended as part of the event/program.
Screening
Volunteers must be sponsored by a current faculty member and/or staff member of the UVA Medical Alumni Association. The UVA Medical Alumni Association reserves the right to contact the sponsor for screening in advance of volunteerism.
Health
Volunteers should not participate if they are ill, have tested positive for a communicable illness, show symptoms of a communicable illness, or have exhibited a fever over 100.5 degrees within 48 hours of the event.
