Sixth Johns Wooten Neurological Symposium

Sixth Johns Wooten Neurological Symposium

The landscape of therapies and diagnostic tools for the management of neurological diseases continues to evolve. How to incorporate new therapies and diagnostic tools into clinical practice is a challenge faced by all neurologists.

In this symposium speakers will discuss advances and perspectives on the management of stroke, multiple sclerosis, dementia, spinal muscular atrophy and other neuromuscular diseases. In addition, there will be presentations on new multi-disciplinary brain research at UVA (The Brain Institute) and UVA’s involvement in a new integrated statewide research institute (Translational Health Research Institute of Virginia – iTHRIV).

Our two keynote speakers are Jeffrey M. Burns, MD, MS and Lawrence H. Phillips, II, MD. Dr. Burns will discuss the current state of diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and the major research advances that may lead to improved diagnostic, treatment, and prevention efforts. Dr. Phillips will review the history and development of EMG and the management of neuromuscular diseases over his long and distinguished career dedicated to these disciplines.

Our symposium will provide neurologists the opportunity to update their clinical practice and learn more effective ways to treat and diagnose their patients.
