Session 2: Empowering healthcare providers and patients (8-9pm: 1 CME Credit)
In 2020, the National Survey on Drug Use and Health reported that 9.7 million people misused prescription pain relievers. This program will be a discussion of strategies that increase a sense of control for patients and for practitioners as they cope with pain and the ramifications of opioid use and misuse. Non-pharmacological treatments and opioid sparing strategies both have a place in the toolbox. Rounding out will be a discussion regarding effective ways to work with challenging patients.
Our Spotlight talk is from Jeffry Katra, DO, MA, a physician at Health and Wellness Medical Services, a private medical practice in Charlottesville, Va. Dr. Katra trained in family medicine prior to completing a fellowship in addiction medicine in the Department of Psychiatry at UVA. He is a member of the OPMOS Advisory Board. He will address the use of medical marijuana to treat pain as well as its role in opioid-sparing treatments.
