Charles W. Gross, MD ’61

Congratulations to Charles W. Gross, MD, winner of the 2013 Walter Reed Distinguished Achievement Award from the UVA Medical Alumni Association and Medical School Foundation. This award recognizes professional accomplishments, outstanding innovation, and exemplary leadership in the field of medicine. The award was presented at the 2013 UVA Medical Alumni Association Business Meeting on April 27, 2013.

Dr. Gross earned his medical degree at the University of Virginia School of Medicine in 1961. Practicing in the field of otolaryngology and maxillofacial surgery, his career includes both academic medicine and private practice. In 1989, he returned to the University of Virginia, serving as professor of pediatrics in the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery.

Dr. Gross has held dozens of professional positions including president of the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. He has made over 160 presentations in the field of otolaryngology and has authored or co-authored more than 180 publications.

In 2009, Dr. Gross was named the recipient of the Outstanding Alumnus Award in recognition of his service and dedication to the University of Virginia Medical Alumni Association and Medical School Foundation.
