In 1972, he joined Rockingham Radiology at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, Va., and practiced until his retirement in 2001.
Charlie served on the UVA Medical Alumni Association’s Board of Directors from 1997-2002 and the UVA Health Foundation Board from 2010-2015. Charlie and his wife Mary have two sons, Charles IV and James, both of whom graduated from the University of Virginia, and four grandchildren.
Charlie and Mary are generous supporters of many areas of the university, especially the School of Medicine. In addition to supporting all of the class projects, Charlie and Mary established the Charles and Mary Henderson Family Scholarship and the Charles and Mary Henderson Faculty Fund for Excellence.
“It is truly an honor to work alongside Charlie and I cannot think of a more deserving recipient for this year’s Outstanding Alumnus Award,” said Elizabeth A. Carr, MD, ’88, president of the UVA Medical Alumni Association Board of Directors.
