Celebrating at the 2018 Winter Retreat

February 19, 2018 – More than 100 alumni, students, housestaff and faculty of the UVA School of Medicine gathered recently for the UVA Medical Alumni Association’s 2018 Winter Retreat at Lansdowne Resort and Spa in Leesburg, Va. Attendees celebrated the School of Medicine’s many accomplishments throughout the weekend, while enjoying time for networking, socializing and relaxing.

The weekend included a student and housestaff research poster exhibit, State of the School address from Dean David S. Wilkes, MD, presentations by J. Corey Feist, JD (UVA Physicians Group) and researcher Daniel “Trey” Lee, MD (UVA Health System), and a gala dinner.

During Saturday evening’s program, alumnus Edward Wood, MD ’57, shared his story and his decision to make a $100,000 bequest to support scholarships at the School of Medicine. Also during the program, Board President Bonnie F. Offit, MD ’87, announced the winners of the research poster exhibit: Michael Dougherty, Nadine Michele and Ashley Volaric. To cap off the night, the 2017 Outstanding Medical Alumnus Award was presented by E. Thomas Newbill, MD ’79, past president of the association’s board of directors. Guests then enjoyed entertainment by The Adrian Duke Project.
