Match Madness 2018
Match Madness was the theme, but members of the Class of 2018 were already winners as they gathered at Old Cabell Hall on March 16 for the annual Match Day Ceremony.
For just under an hour, Associate Dean of Curriculum Megan Bray, MD ‘Res ’99, read their names aloud and students came forward to receive their prized envelopes. At noon, cheers filled the hall as match results were revealed.
Edy Ndem matched at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and plans to specialize in plastic surgery. She told the Cavalier Daily what matching means to her.
“It means that I can do something that I really fell in love with and it’s like I’m just starting my career, and being able to actually form your own relationship with patients and really getting into the nitty gritty of what we’re going to medical school for,” Ndem said.
In all, 161 students matched to institutions in 30 states plus Washington, D.C. Sixteen SMD’18 students will continue their training at UVA.
