In the Spotlight: Welcome to the Class of 2022

Students in the University of Virginia School of Medicine’s Class of 2022 received their official welcome to the profession of medicine on August 10 as they were each presented with a personally embroidered white coat at the 2018 White Coat Ceremony and Convocation at Old Cabell Hall. There are 156 students in the Class of 2022, including four legacy students who have a family member associated with the School of Medicine.

The School’s Class of 1965 endows the ceremony, making it possible for all students to receive their first white coat at no cost to them. The ceremony was attended by students, family members and faculty of the School of Medicine.

“Every time you wear your white coat, you are representing the School of Medicine and our wider UVA family,” said Brie Gerry, SMD’19, president of the Mulholland Society. “Wear it with pride and confidence, even if you have no idea what you are doing, because patients will look to you as if you know what you are doing.”
