Award Nominations Deadline
July 31 is the deadline to submit nominations for our 2023 awards. Nominations are open for the following: Walter Reed Distinguished Achievement Award; Distinguished Achievement Award in Biomedical Sciences; MD Early Achievement Award; Early Achievement Award in Biomedical Sciences; and the Humanitarian Award. Class Notes
Susan M. Pollart, MD ’82, Res ’85, Fel ’88, is the recipient of the 2023 Carole J. Bland Phronesis Award from the Association of American Medical College’s Group on Faculty Affairs. This award honors individuals who exemplify the spirit of phronesis through dedicated and selfless promotion of faculty vitality. MORE

In Memoriam
Alumnus John A. Owen, Jr., MD ’48, passed away on June 28 at the age of 98. He served on the UVA School of Medicine faculty for nearly 40 years, retiring as the James M. Moss Professor of Diabetes and senior associate dean. In 1998, he received the UVA Medical Alumni Association’s Walter Reed Distinguished Achievement Award. MORE
