VMED Strength Workouts

The UVA Medical Alumni Association supports the wellness of medical students in a number of ways. Earlier this year, we purchased updated equipment for their gym.

We are grateful to Brett Whalen, SMD’22, and Zach Wright, SMD’22, for developing a series of four videos for alumni to use for at-home workouts. They include variations for fitness level and mobility.

You can view the videos here. You can also follow them on Instagram.

About the Instructors

Brett Whalen is a third-year medical student at UVA from Camp Hill, Pa. She is interested in going into surgery or OB/GYN but she is still largely undecided. She went to the University of Notre Dame for undergrad where she threw the javelin on the track and field team. She is excited to be able to incorporate athletics and fitness into her med school journey and life as a physician.

Zach Wright is a third year medical student at UVA from Lynchburg, Va. He is interested in cardiology and anesthesiology but is still open to anything. He is a Triple ‘Hoo, meaning he went to UVA for undergrad, got his Masters in exercise physiology from UVA, and he is now getting his MD from UVA. He is the manager of the med school gym. There is no one who loves fitness or UVA sports more than this guy and he’s excited to share that passion with the greater UVA community.
