Alumni Awards

Mary Witt, MD ’78

Dr. Mary Witt was the first female graduate of the University of Virginia School of Medicine to win this award.

Dr. Witt is a graduate of Sweet Briar College and a board-certified pediatric endocrinologist. She completed her residency and fellowship at the University of Virginia and Washington University in St. Louis. Prior to moving to Richmond in 1988, Dr. Witt was in private practice in Atlanta. She is a former medical director with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Virginia and currently holds a position with United Health Care. Dr. Witt also serves as the secretary-treasurer of the Richmond Pediatric Society. She is an active member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Lawson Wilkins Pediatric Endocrine Society. She currently resides in Richmond with her husband, Fritz Will, a CPA, and volunteers as a clinician at Cross Over Ministry health center.

Over the past decade, Dr. Witt has provided tremendous service to the Medical Alumni Association and Medical School Foundation. She has served as representative for the Class of 1978 as well as as a member of the board of directors of the UVA Medical Alumni Association from 2003-2012. From 2008-2009, Dr. Witt served as Secretary and in 2009, she became the first female president of the Medical Alumni Association. After her service to the Medical Alumni Association, she was appointed as a Trustee to the UVA Medical School Foundation.

The UVA Medical Alumni Association is proud to award her the 2012 Outstanding Medical Alumnus Award.
