In the Spotlight: Match Day 2019

Congratulations to the Class of 2019 on a successful Match Day! In March, 142 members of the class matched to a residency, with an additional three students deferring. These soon-to-be graduates will continue their training in 30 states plus Washington, DC, and 26 will remain at the UVA Health System for their residencies. Here are the most popular specialties among this year’s class:

First-Ever BIMS Reunion

More than 225 alumni, faculty and current trainees participated in the first-ever BIMS Reunion Weekend, April 12-14. Alumni who received degrees in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Cell Biology, Experimental Pathology, Microbiology, Neuroscience, Pharmacology and Physiology were invited to attend the festivities.

Medical School Reunion Weekend

Nearly 600 alumni and guests gathered in Charlottesville for the 2019 Medical School Reunion Weekend, April 26-28. Hailing from 30 states and the UK, more than 300 alumni from classes ending in 4 and 9 joined in this year’s celebration. Weekend activities included tours, class events, and a State of the School address.

Nominations Open for 2019 Alumni Awards

The UVA Medical Alumni Association is pleased to announce that nominations are now being accepted for the 2019 Walter Reed Distinguished Achievement Award and the 2019 Early Achievement Award. The deadline for nominations for both awards is July 1, 2019. Awards will be presented in November. You can view award criteria and/or submit a nomination online.

Faculty Video Interview Series

Former School of Medicine Professors Jay Y. Gillenwater, MD, and Marcus Martin, MD, are the latest additions to our series of faculty interviews. The series, hosted by alumnus Rick Greene, MD ’70, covers topics ranging from what brought UVA faculty to Charlottesville to their current activities. To date, 27 currenr or former faculty have been interviewed. You can watch the series on our YouTube channel.
