Wendy Davis, MD ’81

The UVA Medical Alumni Association is pleased to recognize Wendy Davis, MD ’81, with the 2020 Outstanding Medical Alumnus Award.

Davis graduated from Brown University in 1975 and from the University of Virginia School of Medicine in 1981. She completed her pediatric residency and chief residency at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital/Case Medical Center, and a Robert Wood Johnson fellowship in academic general pediatrics at Yale University.

Davis was a lecturer and instructor in pediatrics at Yale University and is currently clinical professor of pediatrics at The Robert Larner, MD College of Medicine at The University of Vermont. She has been an attending physician at the University of Vermont Medical Center since 1987 and was a member of its Board of Trustees from 2002-2006. Since 2013, she has also served as the associate director of the National Improvement Partnership Network and senior faculty with the Vermont Child Health Improvement Program.

Throughout her career, Davis has made genuine contributions to the health of the patients she has cared for and as she grew into the administrative roles she assumed, she expanded her advocacy for the health and well-being of children and families nationally. For nearly four decades, Davis has worked tirelessly to provide care for others.

The University of Virginia has been the beneficiary of her capacity for leadership dating back to 2013 when Davis joined the UVA Medical Alumni Association Board of Directors. In 2016-2017, she served as the secretary before becoming the president elect in 2017-2018 and then president in 2018-2019. As a director, she served on both the Alumni Relations Committee and the Alumni Awards Selection Committee, which she chaired in 2016 and 2017. Under her leadership the UVA Medical Alumni Association expanded its alumni awards program and established the Early Achievement Award that recognizes graduates who graduated in the past 15 years and have brought honor and distinction to the UVA School of Medicine. Davis has served on Reunion Planning Committees for the UVA School of Medicine’s Class of 1981 and has been a volunteer for the UVA Medical Alumni Association’s Host Program since 2013. She currently serves on the UVA Medical School Foundation’s Board of Trustees.

Congratulations to Dr. Davis on this well-deserved recognition.
