In the Spotlight: 2017 White Coat Ceremony

On August 10, the School of Medicine welcomed 161 students in the Class of 2021 to the University of Virginia at the 2017 White Coat Ceremony and Convocation, endowed by the Class of 1965. This year’s event was held at The Paramount Theater in downtown Charlottesville and presented by the UVA Medical Alumni Association and Medical School Foundation.

Here’s a quick overview of the UVA School of Medicine Class of 2021:

  • Total students: 161
  • In-state: 46 percent
  • Women: 48 percent
  • Under-represented in medicine: 22 percent
  • Mean GPA: 3.84

Host Volunteers

Do you live near an academic medical center? We have a great volunteer opportunity for you: hosting a fourth-year student traveling for a residency interview. Winter Retreat

Make plans now to join us for our 2018 Winter Retreat at Lansdowne Resort and Spa in Leesburg, Va. Congratulations to alumna Barbara Bass, MD ’79, FACS, president-elect of the American College of Surgeons (ACS). Dr. Bass chairs the Department of Surgery at Houston Methodist Hospital. Alumni, housestaff and faculty are invited to join us for a reception at the 2017 ACS Clinical Congress in San Diego honoring Dr. Bass.
